Casino Marketing and the Movies

Casinos are exciting places where people can let their hair down and play games based on chance. They are usually flashy, luxurious and include plenty of restaurants and entertainment options like live music or shows. While casinos add a lot of luxuries to the gambling experience, the basic concept of playing games of chance and winning money is one that has been around for centuries. However, there are also other less-lavish venues that house gambling activities. Casinos are very competitive businesses that compete with each other as well as non-gambling resorts, online gambling sites and an illegal gambling business that is much larger than the legal casinos.

In movies, casinos are natural high stakes environments and there have been a number of films that use them as backdrops for drama, action and thrills. Some of these have used the casinos to tell stories about gambling addiction, loss of life savings or even elaborate heists.

Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci star as rival mobster Ace and Nicky, respectively, in the classic movie Casino. While the film has a plot of greed, treachery and corruption, it also has some heart. We can sympathize with the characters in this movie and feel their pain when they fall.

Casinos are very successful at attracting visitors by offering a wide range of games and amenities, including free drinks and an environment without clocks or windows to distract players. They can also keep visitors from leaving by offering them incentives, such as comps and perks. While this approach is effective in attracting older audiences, it’s important for casino marketing to focus on strategies that can reach younger generations.
